I can’t believe it’s already April and I am beginning to add beach sessions to my calendar. Everyone who knows me knows that I have always loved the beach! I love everything about it: the sound, the smell, the colors. I grew up spending summers in Ocean City, Maryland with my family. People don’t always think of OC as being a beautiful beach, but I do! People are often surprised when they see my pictures and find out they were taken in Ocean City. There’s more to OC than the highway and boardwalk.  

I started photographing families on the beach in 2013 (offering beach sessions gives me the perfect excuse to be at the beach most of the summer!), and each season since then has been busier than the last. I’ve learned a lot about shooting on the beach over the last ten years – how to work with the wind, how to arrange large extended families so that everyone looks good, and how to capture the perfect light. As is the case with all photography, lighting is the key to stunning beach photos. Sunset light brings out the beautiful cotton candy skies and the deeper blue in the ocean. It may not be the most convenient time of day to pause and get your picture taken, but the results are so worth it.
